About us

"Glocal Mission" of the church combines the words "global" and "local", emphasizing the church's responsibility to engage in mission work both in its immediate community and around the world. This approach recognizes that the call to spread the Gospel and serve others transcends geographical boundaries, urging believers to be active in their local neighborhoods while also participating in global outreach efforts.

A Glocal Mission encourages churches to think globally while acting locally, fostering a mindset that every believer is part of a larger, interconnected mission field. This dual focus helps the church to address diverse needs, share resources, and build relationships that reflect the universal nature of the Christian faith, as seen in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) and the call to love one's neighbor (Mark 12:31).

At Glocal Mission Community Church, we envision a vibrant community of believers who actively engage in both local and global mission work, reflecting the love of Christ in every aspect of our lives. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds can come together to worship, grow in faith, and serve others. By embracing our unique position in Hong Kong—a city rich in cultural diversity—we strive to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for transformation, empowering our members to share the Gospel and meet the needs of our neighbors while also participating in global outreach initiatives. Our mission is rooted in the Great Commission and the call to love our neighbors, fostering a spirit of collaboration and compassion that transcends geographical boundaries.

Revd & Dr. Seong Sik Heo

The Reverend Dr. Seong Sik Heo is the first lead pastor of Glocal Mission Community Church (GMCC) in Hong Kong, where he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to guide an international, multi-ethnic congregation. His journey into ministry began as a teenager when he felt a calling to become a missionary, leading him to study Chinese language and literature and pursue graduate studies in East Asian Studies in Korea. He began his theological education at the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary, where he translated Lesslie Newbigin's influential book, The Gospel in a Pluralist Society, into Korean. After being ordained in 2003, Dr. Heo continued his doctoral studies at Princeton Theological Seminary in the USA, focusing on missional church studies. He also served as a lead pastor at True Light Presbyterian Church in New Jersey, overseeing both English and Korean congregations for about a decade.

Upon completing his doctoral thesis on Newbigin’s missional debates, he returned to Korea to teach missiology and publish extensively on missional church topics. Since moving to Hong Kong in 2019, Dr. Heo has served as a pastor for both Korean and English congregations before assuming his current role at GMCC. Additionally, he is the president and a professor at the newly established Glocal Vision University, where he explores building missional churchesin non-Western regions. Dr. Heo's diverse background and dedication to missional work make him an inspiring leader for the GMCC community.
